Upcoming Art Project: Note from Mrs.Hegeman

Dear 4th grade students and parents,
For our next art project, 4th graders will explore found/recycled object art. We will be making "robots" out of boxes, tubes, wires, plastic lids, foil and anything else you find around the house that is not needed. Ceral or shoe boxes or oatmeal cylinders would be about the largest sizes desired due to space limitations in the art room. Smaller objects like buttons, wires, old wnwanted computer parts, clear plastic caps, egg cartons could be collected in the largest box and brought to school on the following days:

Hunt: 3/27
Minor: 3/30
Williams/Catlin: 3/26

Thank you for your help. I look forward to seein gmany creative solutions to this exciting visual problem!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Hegeman
Art Teacher

Spring Break Math Assignment

My math class has a packet of worksheets to work on over Spring Break. There are problems for each day of Spring Break. Please do not let your child save the problems for the end of Spring Break. Students need to work on problems each day to maintain their skills. We will have a Unit Test when we return from Spring Break. Thanks for your continued support.

Book Summary Project

Students went to the library on Tuesday and checked out a fiction book to read for our upcoming Summary Book Project. This book will need to be finished by April 3rd. Students have until this Friday, March 13th to change there mind on the book they chose.

Week of March 2-6

I can't believe it is already March, state assessment time, and the beginning of our third trimester. I guess time really does fly when you are having fun!

State Assessments - Your students will be taking reading state assessments today, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoon. Please make sure they come to school well rested and with a good breakfast. We kicked off state assessments this morning well a great pep assembly. Student athletes from Lawrence High School came to talk to the kids about test taking strategies and doing their best. We then did some balvisics exercises and dancing to get the students brains and bodies engaged. In the classroom we also had some yummy Pumpkin Chocolate Chip muffins that I whipped up last night. Math assessments will be next week Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday morning, and Thursday afternoon.

Social Studies - We took our test in Social Studies today and we are starting the Midwest Region right away. I hope to give the test at the end of next week before we go on Spring Break. Students need to start studying states and capitals immediately! Don't put it off.

Spelling - In case you hadn't noticed there was no spelling list for this week and their will be no spelling test on Wednesday. I will give out a new list on Thursday and their will be a test next Wednesday.

Math - Math will be spotty this week as we work around assessments. We are continuing learning about multiplication.

Calendar - You probably noticed that I have added a calendar to the top of the blog. I think this will make finding assignments a little more user friendly. I will continue to post a short blurb about our day as well as a summary about the week.

Tuesday - Today we took our second reading state assessment. The students are doing well and working hard. I am very proud of them. I also handed back their Social Studies tests. They did fantastic. A few parents need to sign and return the test tomorrow, so please look for that. Tonight students need to study for their Social Studies Test. The test will be at the end of next week before we go on Spring Break.
