Welcome back! I hope you all had a nice break and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. I sure did! My little Olive is getting so big. In the last two weeks she has started waving and saying bye and she is now pulling herself up to try and start walking. We are having so much fun!
Reading/Language Arts - In reading and language arts this week we are working on writing with adjectives. Today we watched "Unpack Your Adjectives" from School House Rocks and then worked on writing with good adjectives as we wrote journal entries about our break. This week we will also start back our Guided Reading groups and begin focusing on the text structure of cause and effect.
Spelling - Students will take a pre-test on Wednesday, learn the lesson, and get a new list. We are now on Unit16.Also, the school spelling bee is this Friday. Unfortunately none of the students from our homeroom will be competing, but we are proud of those who tried out.

Math - In my math class we went continue working on order of operations and divisibility rules. This week we will begin focusing on multiply digit multiplication. I am looking for parent volunteers who might be available next week during our math time to come in and help work on money and making change. This is one skill I want to make sure that students have down. If you are available during the day from 12:30-1:40 and would like to help please let me know.
Health - This week we are finishing up the unit on the Body and the Body Systems. Student are filling out a short little study guide as we finish each lesson and there will be an open book test on Friday.
Monday - Today we made a trip to the library for book check out. We also started working on writing using adjectives. Tonight students will bring home their journals and they are assigned to look over their entries with a parent to make sure they have used good adjectives to describe their vacation. Also, students are to bring home their health and finish the study guide part for lesson 2.
Tuesday - Today in health we really had a great discussion when studying the digestive system. There is no homework tonight, unless your students have homework from their math class. My math class has no homework. Have a nice evening!
Thursday - Today we started our guided reading groups and stations again. This round of guided reading groups is focused on students finding cause and effect relationships in expository reading. In my math class today I taught the all-partial method of multiplication. Here is a link to the Math Trailblazers glossary.

The glossary will show an example of what the all-partial method looks like.
Homework tonight is to do math pp 199-200 #1-6. Students also need to take their Health books and study guides home and review them for the open book test tomorrow.
Friday - It has been a fantastic week back, but TGIF. My math class has pages 200-201 #10-18 for homework. The rest of my class needs to study their spelling over the weekend. Have a great weekend!
