What a week we have ahead! I apologize for falling behind on my posts last week. This week is going to be a busy one. We have a lot planned, as well as "extra events." Today (Tuesday) we are spending our morning focusing on the the inauguration. The students wrote this morning in their journals about the significance of the day and we will be watching President Obama take the oath of office and make his speech. Today we will also be visiting the library to check out books. Tomorrow I will be giving a formative reading assessment on the computer in preparation for state assessments.
Thursday will be a crazy day. First thing in the morning we will be participating in the Body Venture, body walk. Students will get the experience of walking through a replica of the human body. We will then be eating lunch in the classroom early. Students are welcome to bring their lunch that day, but they can also purchase their lunch in the cafeteria. Our class will load the bus at 11:30 to head for the Fair Grounds for Slice of Agriculture. At this field trip students will learn about the farm life as well as nutrition and Kansas resources. At the end of the trip students will enjoy a pizza snack. On Thursday we will also be taking a group class picture!
Reading/Language Arts - We will be writing about the inauguration, taking a formative reading assessment, and we will also begin working on a research project for a PowerPoint we will be doing on famous Kansans.
Math - This week my math class will be finishing up unit 7 on multiplication by multiply digits and will begin unit 8.
Science - We continue to work on our Electricity Unit!
Tuesday - Don't forget that book orders are due tomorrow! Study for spelling test.

Wednesday - Today we started talking about our Famous Kansans PowerPoint. We went over the outline of the project as well as the rubric. Students also had their first Formative Reading Assessment in preparation for the State Assessments. Their is no homework tonight, however, students need to make sure and wear socks tomorrow for the Body Venture body walk. Thanks!
p.s. I will be sending home a writing piece that students did about their personal views/feelings about the inauguration yesterday. These writing are in sealed envelopes and are for you to put in a safe place so that students can open them in twenty years and relive history.
