Even though it has taken me a couple of days to get our weeks events posted, we have still been very busy.
Reading - This week all fourth graders started book clubs. Students are mixed across the grade level reading novels and discussing what they read. These groups will meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. Check with students each night to make sure they have done their required reading and completed their job for the next days discussion. Also, help make sure your student has their book and papers in their backpacks and gets them to school. Groups don't run well when not everyone is ready to participate.
Language Arts - This week students are learning how to write summaries of what they read. We are working on mini-lessons this week. Next week we will begin a bigger writing project using the books students checked out before Spring Break. Those books need to be ready by April 3rd, so check with your child to make sure they are not falling behind.
Math - In my math class students are learning long division. They have done an excellent job of picking up the forgiveness method and feel very confident in their abilities. I also should them the "old way" of division, and of course they always have the choice of what works best for them.
Social Studies - This week we are finishing learning about the Southwest Region. The test is Friday, so make sure your students are studying a little each night. I would really like to have a Taste of the Southwest party for students as we finish up this unit. Any parents interested in helping please let me know. (I am thinking of a fun Tex-Mex lunch.)
Don't forget - NO SCHOOL next Monday, April 6. Teachers have a Professional Development Day.
