Week of February 9-13

Construction Week!
This week my class is busy making our electric houses. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday students will be wiring their houses and Thursday they will decorate. We hope to have our open house Thursday afternoon. I will let you know a time when I know better when the students will be done with "construction."
There are also a lot of other great activities this week . . .
Scholastic Book Fair - The book fair runs from Feb 9-11. Students are able to purchase books before and after school.
Pancake Feed - Wednesday night, I am not sure of the time. This will be the last night for the book fair.
Friendship Week - See last week's post of the days and how students will celebrate.
Valentine's Day Party - We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, Feb 13th. Students will need to bring some sort of mailbox to put their Valentine's in. A list of student names was sent home on Friday so that you can ensure that all students get Valentine. The party will start at 2:45 and end at 3:30.

Reading - This week in reading students continue to learn about problem/solution in mini-lessons, and then reinforce those skills in Guided Reading groups and Literacy Stations. We will also begin a writing project this week.

Math - My math class is working in Unit 15 learning about input and output machines and function tables. This is an area that my class showed weakness on our formative assessment.

Science - Electric Houses!

Social Studies - While we will not get to Social Studies this week in class, you can still be getting a head start on learning your Southeast Region states and capitals.

Monday - My math class needs to do pages 415 and 416 for homework. They will need an adult to play Guess My Rule with them at least twice. Also, I am sending home a note to let you know when your parent teacher conference is scheduled. Please return these as soon as possible. Don't forget to study spelling tonight.

Wednesday - I apologize for not updating sooner, but I have been unable to get the blogger website to come up on my school computer for two days.
Thursday we will be hosting our Electric House "Open House." All parents are invited. The open house will begin at 3:00pm. Those of you who unable to attend are welcome to send cameras with your students so they can capture the moment. The students have been doing a fantastic job and they are anxious for you to see their handy-work.
Students will also need to bring a box Friday to hold their Valentine's.
Also, as a reminder, your students' experiments are due on Friday. They only need to turn in their scientific method worksheet.
If you haven't filled out your Parent-Teacher Conference slip, please sign and return as soon as possible. Thanks!
Thursday - Thanks so much to all you who were able to come to the open house today. What a success! If you would like a picture of your child's electric house let me know and I will email you one. There is no homework tonight from my class, but your child may have homework from their math teacher, so check! Don't forget Valentine's and mailboxes tomorrow!
