Math . . .
This week students are finishing up Unit 3 by learning about ratios. My plan was to give the math test on Thursday, but it looks like we will be holding off until Monday. The test will cover unit vocabulary, changing mixed fractions to improper fractions, changing improper fractions to mixed numbers, comparing fractions, and finding equivalent fractions. Students will also write ratios. To study for the test you have students study Unit 3 vocabulary words in their math spiral. You can also look over the book and give students problems like you find in the book. www.math-drills.com is a great place to find worksheets for practicing lots of math topics. If you have any other questions about the test please let me know.
Writing ...
In writing this week we are working on our scary story/suspense story/mystery. Students were given the option of writing a suspense/mystery story for class, or writing a scary story for the Lawrence Journal World Scary Story Contest. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2009/oct/03/scary-story-contest-submissions-sought/
A note was given to students last week about the contest and they were allowed to choose. If you have any questions please let me know. I am looking forward to reading their stories!
Also, don't forget that spelling tests have been moved to Fridays! This week our list of words are homophones, so practice definitions with students as well as spelling.
Other news . . .
This week Mrs. Fredrickson will be presenting to our class about Andrea Warren, our guest author who is visiting Monday, October 26. We will soon begin a read aloud of one of her books Orphan Train Rider.
